Stockholm’s bunnies burned to keep Swedes warm – The Local.

I find this a bit hilarious. It seems that Sweden has a rabbit problem so whenever they do a culling  (I love that word) of the local rabbit population they use the thousands of rabbit corpses to fuel the heating plant. I guess since wearing a rabbit fur coat is so cruel then the next best thing is to toss a couple of rabbits on the fire and warm your chilly buns with them.

Of course Swedish hippies take offense at this. They are screaming about the horror of using cute, cuddly bunnies as kindling. I guess their idea of bringing nature into balance is to let the little guys run free and destroy the local flora.

I only see one problem with this. When you kill 6,000 rabbits the best thing to do is make one heck of a rabbit stew. Rabbit is good eating. Then again rabbits are a renewable resource and as long as you have at least a boy and a girl rabbit you could heat a small home all winter. Plus, I guess, if you burn the corpses you prevent being overrun by hoards of undead rabbits with a thirst for human blood.

This is my favorite part of the article though:

“Animal control authorities employ a special rifle to shoot the excess rabbits, with most of the culling taking place at dawn when the animals peek out from their holes.”

I want to see what a special rabbit gun looks like. Hopefully it as some sort of method to keep rabbits from sticking their fingers down the barrel causing the gun to backfire in the shooters face (This is known as the Bugs Bunny effect).I can also imagine some hunter laying in the wet grass, scope zeroed in on the rabbit hole just waiting for the command to take the waskly wabbit out.

Can anyone think of a better use for the bodies of 6000 rabbits other than heating fuel? Perhaps Bob Barker can go to Sweden and teach them the joys of spaying and neutering bunnies.

Or maybe they should just let people freeze to death while the rabbits stay nice and warm in their snuggly homes.
